The weather is warming up and we are all looking forward to spending more time outdoors. If you have a pool, now is the time to start thinking about getting it ready for the summer season. The last thing you want is to be stuck with a green pool when everyone else is enjoying the sun. Here are some top tips to help you get your pool ready for all those long, lazy days ahead.
Give your pool a good clean
The first step in getting your pool ready for summer is to clean it thoroughly. This includes scrubbing the walls and floor as well as vacuuming the entire pool. Don’t forget to empty all of the baskets and clean the filter. If you have time, you should also clean the pool deck. This will help to create a safe and inviting environment for you and your guests to enjoy.
Check the pH levels
The next thing you need to do is check the pH levels of your pool water. The ideal range is between seven and eight. If the levels are too high or too low, you’ll need to adjust them accordingly. You can do this by adding chemicals to the water; consult a professional if you’re not sure how to do this.
Test the chlorine levels
Chlorine is an important part of keeping your pool clean and safe. The ideal level of chlorine is between three and five ppm in the tropical climate of QLD. You can test the levels using a pool test kit or come to our shop Pacific Pool and Spa for a free in-store test. If the levels are too low, you’ll need to add more chlorine to the water. Again, consult a professional if you’re unsure how to do this.
Check the filters and pumps
The filters and pumps are what keep the water in your pool clean. It’s important to check them regularly to make sure they’re working properly; but if you have neglected them over the winter make sure you give them a thorough check-over before you start using the pool again. If they are not working properly, get them checked out or replaced by a professional.
Get some new pool toys
It is finally time to start swimming again but, alas, you realize all your pool toys have gotten a bit old and tattered from last season. New pool toys are a great way to get excited about swimming again. You can find a variety of new and fun pool toys at your pool local store; from inflatable rafts to colourful floats, there is sure to be something that will make your pool time even more enjoyable.
Get the pool professionally serviced
If you’re not confident in checking and servicing the pool yourself, then it’s a good idea to get a professional to do it for you. They will be able to check everything is in working order and spot any problems that need to be fixed. This will give you peace of mind and mean that you can enjoy using the pool safe in the knowledge that it is well-maintained.
